Elegant Cherry DresserThis simple dresser was an exercise in subtle details. I used the darker makore wood to complement the warm cherry. I also employed a series of tricks, such as skewing the handles outward and alternating the grain direction on the drawer faces, to move the eye around the piece. All the drawers are made with hand-cut dovetails and have solid cedar bottoms. This is a good example of how a very simple design can be a charming piece of furniture to live with.
I am an artisan woodworker and furniture designer working out of Orange County, CA. I have an eclectic approach to design that stresses simple lines and thoughtful use of materials. All my work is built in solid wood, using the grain and color as a sort of decoration. Every piece I make also uses interlocking joinery to give it greater strength and beauty.
